A smart wristband has been introduced at Tianfu No.7 Middle School in Chengdu in southwest China’s Sichuan Province aimed at making life easier on campus.
The new device is already saving time in the lunch queue, with waiting times cut down to under a minute, the Chengdu Economic Daily said on Wednesday.
According to a teacher at the school, chips have been installed on the plates which automatically display meal prices when placed in the paying area.
Students can then use the wristband to pay for their lunch by tapping it on a sensor.

Already described by students as “necessary equipment”, the wristband provides a range of functions.
Apart from the payment function, it also transfers data about a student's nutritional and dietary needs to the school's administrators.
It also functions as a watch, can count steps and heart rate and displays a student's schedule when swiped on digital class boards.
It is said that the smart wristband is only a small part of the school's plans to create a smart campus. The middle school has also launched a cloud platform, a 10 Gigabit Ethernet and full-area coverage WiFi as part of the campus ecosystem that links the school study space with students' homes.

One student told the Chengdu Economic Daily that the wristband makes life on campus easier, and the payment process is simple and saves time.
But one web user voiced concerns on Weibo that the technology would put pressure on parents because of the additional expense.
