China says it's encouraged by its cooperation with Brazil's new government, calling it promising. Both sides are looking to boost trade and improve ties. CGTN's Wang Mengzhen has the details.
With his official visit coming to an end, Brazilian vice president Hamilton Mourao sat down with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday, conveying a message of goodwill from Brazil's president Jair Bolsonaro. Both sides have agreed to push forward their comprehensive strategic partnership. Briefing the media, the Chinese foreign ministry calls it a high-standard reception.

CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTRY "Mourao is the first high-level Brazilian leader to visit China since the formation of its new government. And this year also marks the 45-year anniversary since China and Brazil established diplomatic ties. So facing the current political uncertainties globally, both parties hope to develop relations, setting a good example of cooperation among developing countries."
A day earlier, Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan also welcomed his Brazilian counterpart here to Beijing. Both leaders held talks and presided over the fifth meeting of the China-Brazil High-Level Coordination and Cooperation. Topics like people to people exchanges and the Belt and road initiative were high on the agenda. China says it welcomes Brazil's participation in the initiative.

During the high-level talks, Mourao also said Brazil is willing to expand exports to China and. Over the last 45 years, Bilateral trade has kept growing. Since 2009, China has surpassed the US to become Brazil's largest trading partner. But facing the China-US trade tension and rising trade protectionism globally, how could China and Brazil mitigate such a complex situation?
