China’s largest chamber-launching shiplift has passed a two-day quality control test, media reports said.
Manufactured by Sinohydro Jiajiang Hydraulic Machinery Company, the modern slipway can lift a maximum weight of 1,800 tonnes with a maximum height of 79 meters. Its hoisting speed on water reaches eight meters per minute.
local media said the shiplift passed the test at the Jiajiang manufacturing base in Leshan, southwest China's Sichuan Province, showcasing a smooth and stable operation, accurate braking, and reliable protective device.
“The shiplift is like a large elevator on water," said Zeng Wen, chief engineer at Sinohydro Jiajiang. "It takes only about 10 minutes to lift a 500-tonne ship to a height equivalent to a 25-floor building.”

It took two years to construct the 3,092-ton shiplift whose weight and size both rank top among peers in China, Zeng added.
The engineers had prepared for almost half a year for the trial backed by an innovative research team. Twelve national patents have been awarded for its design and manufacturing alone.
It will be used in the Goupitan Dam on the Wujiang River in southwest China's Guizhou Province.
