The fifth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia or "CICA" has been wrapped up in Tajikistan's capital Dushanbe. During his speech, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for joint efforts to build a secure, prosperous and inclusive continent. CGTN's He Weiwei has more.
Asia's largest multilateral dialogue on security issues. Top officials from 27 countries gathered in Tajikistan for direct talks. Chinese President Xi Jinping said Asia was one of the most dynamic and promising regions in the world.
Despite facing some common challenges -- such as a lack of political mutual trust and unbalanced economic situations -- Asian countries should work together to make the continent a safer and more developed place to live.
XI JINPING CHINESE PRESIDENT "We should abandon zero-sum games and protectionism, strengthen communication in policies, enhance political mutual trust and gradually expand political consensus."
Xi added that China was committed to peaceful development.
To further implement the new concept for Asian security that he proposed at the last CICA summit in 2014, Xi stressed that China would adhere to opening up and win-win situations with other countries whilst promoting multilateralism, and maintaining an international order based on international law.
XI JINPING CHINESE PRESIDENT "China always maintains good relations with Asian countries, and has participated in the establishment of multilateral mechanisms such as CICA, SCO and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. It has also made contributions to Asian stability and prosperity."
Looking to the future, Xi said China was willing to further advance its massive international project, the Belt and Road initiative, to create more development opportunities for itself and other partners.
HE WEIWEI DUSHANBE, TAJIKISTAN "China has always been an active member of the CICA conference and a strong supporter of peace and stability in Asia and around the world. The country says it's willing to share its experiences with Tajikistan and other nations to further enhance regional security and economic development, and build a community of common destiny for mankind.
