Stephen King's "It" reclaimed the top spot at the North American box office, defeating Tom Cruise's latest film "American Made" and Fox's "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" in a close race.
"It" brought in an estimated 17.31 million US dollars, seeing its third number 1 ranking on its fourth weekend in theaters in North America. Warner Bros. and New Line's horror film has earned more than 553 million US dollars worldwide since opening.
"The film has been a juggernaut in the month of September and features a terrific cast of actors," wrote movie analyst Paul Dergarabedian at comScore in an email to Xinhua.

"The Industry finishes September with a new record for total box office revenue for the traditionally slow month and sets its sights on maintaining and building momentum as we head into the final three months of the box office year," he added.
Universal's "American Made" starring Tom Cruise opened in the second place with an estimated 17.01 million US dollars in its debut weekend. The American biographical crime film is directed by Cruise's "Edge of Tomorrow" director Doug Liman.
Cruise plays Barry Seal, a pilot for commercial airline TWA, who became a drug smuggler for a Colombian drug cartel in the 1980s. In order to avoid jail time, Seal approached US government officials and served as an informant for them.

20th Century Fox's action spy film "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" moved to the third place with an estimated 17 million US dollars in its second weekend. Directed by Matthew Vaughn, "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" is a sequel to "Kingsman: The Secret Service" released in 2015. The film franchise is based on the "Kingsman" comic book series.
Warner Bros.' animated "The Lego Ninjago Movie" landed in the fourth place with an estimated 12 million US dollars in its second weekend.
Sony's reboot of the science fiction psychological horror film "Flatliners" finished fifth with an estimated 6.7 million US dollars in its opening weekend.
