Death toll rises to 23 in SW China landslide

The death toll of a landslide that struck a village in southwestern China's Guizhou Province has climbed to 23, with eight injured and 12 still missing.
The landslide occurred at about 10:40 a.m. Monday in Zhangjiawan township, Nayong County, affecting 34 households. More than 600,000 cubic meters of rock and mud fell 200 meters and hit a village.
A total of 31 people have been rescued as of 4:00 p.m. Wednesday. Of the eight injured, one has been cured and left the hospital while seven are still accepting treatment.
More than 2,000 people, including firefighters, soldiers, police, and medical staff have been engaged in the rescue work. Over 110 relief vehicles, 20 life detectors, 17 diggers and eight drones were used in the operation.
The provincial, city and county governments have sent relief supplies to the affected area, including tents, quilts and rice, and also gathered a relief fund of 2.5 million yuan (379,100 US dollars).
