Now to Northeast China, where this year's Changchun Film Festival has just wrapped up. The winners of the biennial awards were handed out at a high-profile gala over the weekend. Our reporter Shen Li has more.
A final stroll down the red carpet in the Jilin capital, known as the cradle of Chinese cinema to the screams and adulation of hundreds of fans who just didn't want the film-fest to end. On hand were its image ambassador, Jackie Chan and jury panel chairman, Huo Jianqi and well as staff from several nominated productions. The Power of Youth seemed to be a general theme this year, with six of the awards going to up-and-coming stars in the industry.
JACKIE CHAN ACTOR "The young filmmakers are incredible. I never thought before. I just showed traditional martial arts, but these days these young filmmakers use technology all kinds of things and combined with action movies, that's incredible."
The comedy-drama "Dying to Survive" was by far the biggest winner of the night, scooping four of the major gongs. Based on a real story, "Dying to Survive" is about a cancer survivor who smuggled cheap, but unproven cancer medicine from India as it was banned in China. Besides being a celebration of Chinese-language movies over the past two years, the gala was also honored to have Hong Kong singer Hacken Lee.
SHEN LI CHANGCHUN, JILIN PROVINCE "It may not be the biggest film festival in China, but in the past 26 years, it has grown into an important platform especially showcasing Chinese language films, hence witnessing the development of China's movie scene. SL, CGTN."
