During the meeting, President Xi discussed with NPC Deputies from Chongqing, a variety of issues affecting the city. Our China Correspondent Yao Chin has more.
The City of Chongqing is a municipality in China that has the same status as a province. With 28.8 million people, Chongqing has a population bigger than Australia's.
YAO CHIN BEIJING "It's a major industrial centre and a trading hub for Southwest China. And it's been ranked as the world's fastest growing tourism city by the world travel and tourism council. Just some of the factors that make Chongqing so important to China. And why President Xi has given it such close attention today."
HUANG YULIN NPC DEPUTY FROM CHONGQING "In his address, President Xi Jinping said we should work hard to implement the policies of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. At the same time, the President is also concerned about developing the City to a high standard. We should seize the opportunity to put this into practice."
GAO YU NPC DEPUTY FROM CHONGQING "He encouraged us, especially young entrepreneurs and innovators, to dynamically transform industry in Chongqing, giving it momentum to drive new growth. The President is also concerned about protecting the environment, and about the eco-friendly development of the Yangtze River Economic Zone. I am engaged in the shared-economy industry, which has exactly the same concerns."
SHEN TIEMEI NPC DEPUTY FROM CHONGQING "President Xi showed strong interest when I talked about exporting Chinese culture. He spoke of wanting to see local forms of Chinese Opera performed more, and for this local culture to be preserved. We're ready to play our part in the Opera industry, and put on great work to enhance Chinese cultural confidence."
