We begin in Tajikistan, where the heads of government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization have wrapped up a two-day meeting. Officials from SCO member states signed a joint communique, urging for deepening cooperation in areas of security, trade, and agriculture. CGTN's Michal Bardavid has the story.
The Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization met in Tajikistan on Friday. One of the main goals of the meeting was to implement tasks that were set by the Heads of State of the SCO during their summit in Qingdao China in June.
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang emphasized the need to enhance cooperation on industries such as security, trade and production capacity and stated that connectivity among member states was crucial. Premier Li also discussed ways to increase cooperation within the scope of China's Belt and Road Initiative.
Russian Prime Minister Medvedev stated that the SCO had a lot of untapped potential. During the summit, the Chinese Premier spoke with his Russian counterpart, Li Keqiang stated that the two countries could expand their cooperation in the fields of energy, science and technology.
MICHAL BARDAVID DUSHANBE "The Shanghai Cooperation Organization members now make up about 40 percent of the world's population and account for nearly 20 percent of the world's economy. Leaders of the SCO Council of Heads of Government that gathered here in Dushanbe discussed ways to increase bilateral cooperation in many key areas including security and economy."
A joint communique was signed at the end of the SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting. Leaders warned of an increase in unilateral and protectionist measures around the world and underlined the importance of energy cooperation, while stressing their support for further joint efforts in the field of agriculture and e-commerce.
