Syria's Foreign Ministry on Thursday dismissed US allegations of Damascus' intention to use chemical weapons as baseless, according to its state news agency SANA.
A Foreign Ministry source said the US warning on an impending chemical attack was "misleading, false and baseless", and was Washington's way of justifying a fresh attack on Syria.
On Wednesday, the country's Minister of National Reconciliation, Ali Haider, denied the allegation and accused of the White House of inciting a diplomatic war.
US Defense Secretary James Mattis said on Wednesday that Damascus had heeded Washington's warning. The US had issued the warning after detecting evidence of preparations of a chemical attack, similar to what occurred before a suspected chemical attack in April in Khan Sheikhoun. The incident in northwest Syria killed over 70 people, including women and children.
Key Syria ally Russia said it will respond "in proportion" if the US takes pre-emptive measures against Syrian forces to prevent the planned attack.
