National Basketball Association: Philadelphia 108 - Cleveland 97
[]
We're back with basketball and Cleveland hosting Philadelphia. This was the first game between the clubs since a diehard 76ers fan bought advertising space on three-billboards in Cleveland, trying to lure LeBron James to the city of Brotherly Love. The signs use the clever tag -- complete the Process, in reference to Philly's recent strategy of building through the draft. The King is a free agent at the end of the season, and many are speculating that the four-time MVP could be interested in heading East to play in Philly, with young guns Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid.
The young Sixers start quick -- a little two-man game between Embiid, and J-J Redick sees the vet can the triple on his way to 22 points. Philly lead by seven.
The King keeps it close, going behind the back, and finishing at the rim for three the hard way. He had a game-high 30. But Philly is still in front.
Right before recess, Simmons backs down his opponent and gets the right hook to fall for a 5-point edge.
The Aussie then shows off his jumper, something he is not known for -- as the lead swells to 9 points. 18 for the second-year swingman.
Late in the fourth, Simmons shows off his skills, splitting a double team and going hard to the rack and Philly has a little breathing room up 6.
90 seconds to go, and the 76ers call Embiid's number. Working on Larry Nance Jr. he pirouettes, and hits the fallaway jumper and then lets his defender know about it. He finishes with 17 and 14 rebounds, as Philadelphia win it 108-97.
In other action, Portland outscores Minnesota 33-21 in the fourth, to claim a 108-99 win. Sacramento beats Brooklyn 116-111 in overtime. Bogdan Bogdanovich scoring 26 for the winners. Isaiah Thomas went off for 29 points as the L.A. Lakers beat the Miami Heat all about the face and head, 131-113.
