In China's Shaanxi province, a ceremony has been held to pay homage to Huangdi, the Yellow Emperor, or the ancestor of the Chinese people. Some 10,000 people attended the event at the emperor's mausoleum. CGTN's Zheng Yibing reports.
A grand memorial ceremony. Some 10,000 Chinese from across the world worship their common Chinese ancestor Huangdi, or the Yellow ancestor, who created the Huaxia nationality or Chinese nation more than 4,700 years ago.

Among the participants, there are overseas Chinese, from the mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. Over 300 Taiwan compatriots are at the ceremony, including political figures Hung Hsiu-chu, former chairperson of the Kuomintang, and Yok Mu-ming, chairman of the New Party. Liu Jieyi, director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, expressed the hope that people from all walks of life on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to work together for the greater national interest.

In traditional costume, people dance, play music and read speeches, expressing their respect for the Yellow Emperor. The 1st recorded sacrifice was made for Huangdi at this site in 442 BC. The ceremonial offerings eventually became a tradition, and the mausoleum is regarded as a sacred place all Chinese across the world.
