China's two-time Olympic gold medal winner and former WBO flyweight champion Zou Shiming faces an anxious wait to learn the results of a medical examination of a relapsed eye injury, according to his wife.
Fans feared for Zou’s sight after he was seen wearing sunglasses and clinging to his wife while walking through Shanghai Hongqiao Airport on Thursday. He had just flown back from attending the Laureus China Top 10 Athletes awards ceremony on Wednesday in Beijing.

Eye injuries are common in boxing. Zou told media after he won the WBO international flyweight title by beating Luis De La Rosa in 2014 that he had suffered a detached retina during the match.
Zou’s wife, Ran Yingying, told Tencent Sport, that Zou was treated and examined in hospital on Friday and they are now waiting for a prognosis.

On Thursday, Ran wrote on her Weibo microblog, “I can’t sleep. I will wait until the morning and start with a different check-up. Today is the worst day for me.”
Zou won three consecutive Olympic medals (bronze in 2004 and gold in 2008 and 2012), as well as three World Amateur Boxing Championships gold medals in 2005, 2007 and 2011.
