At least 15 people were killed, and several others are injured after a massive fire broke out at Kamala Mills Compound, in Lower Parel, Mumbai, late Thursday night, according to local media.
The fire took place at a multi-story building in central Mumbai, India’s financial capital, killing mostly women attending a birthday party at a rooftop restaurant, police said.
The 28-year-old woman celebrating her birthday was also killed in the fire, Reuters reported citing her grandfather.
It is reported that most of the victims were trapped in the bathroom area while they were searching for protection.
The fire has been extinguished, but it affected at least three national news channels, including Bennett Coleman and Co's Times Now and ET Now.
The cause of the incident is under investigation.
