Helle Thorning-Schmidt, former Danish prime minister, is perhaps best known on the Internet for the pictures taken with the Obamas.
While then President Barack Obama was busy taking selfies and chatting with the prime minister, his wife Michelle looked sad and left behind.
However the online buzz soon died down; after the former politician finished her term of office, she started another career, becoming the CEO of Save the Children International, an organization that is nearly 100 years old.
And in this century children all over the world are still in need of saving: while old issues such as poverty and famine continue, new horrors like sexual abuse and online pornography appear almost daily.
“All children should live safe from harm,” said Thorning-Schmidt, “And one of the things we achieved lately is having a real good cooperation with China. They are willing to listen to us on how to strengthen legislation.”
“China can serve as an example to so many other countries if that can be achieved.”
