China's Commerce Ministry reviewed its work carried out over the past several years in Beijing on Monday. At a briefing in the Chinese capital, Commerce Minister Zhong Shan vowed to build China into a trading power from the vast trading nation it is now. The minister also said that China will step up efforts in upgrading its consumption structure, maintain the growth of foreign trade, and hold the first China Import Expo next year.
In order to achieve all this, the head of China's trade in services called for the promotion of the nation's service trade.
“Over the past 10 months, China's trade in services increased by 9.9 percent – in particular, exports of trade in services saw an increase of 10.9 percent, while imports increased by 9.4 percent – this is the first time that the export increase rate surpassed that of imports in the past seven years. But we have to admit China's trade in services started late and lacks experience,” said Xian Guoyi, director of the Service Trade Department.
Xian added that China will try to solve the problem by development and upgrade its structure and improve its quality in the process of its development.
Official statistics show that China’s foreign trade volume reached 25 trillion RMB (3.7 trillion US dollars) over the past 11 months, increasing at a rate of 15.6 percent year-on-year, the highest in the past six years. China’s Commerce Ministry aims to solidify China’s status as a large trading nation by 2020 and build the country into a trade power by 2050.
