At least 17 people have been killed and 36 others wounded after a bus carrying illegal immigrants hit a lighting pole and caught on fire in east Turkey’s Igdir Province late Thursday, according to the province's governor.

The vehicle was carrying more than 50 people, according to local media.

The migrants, including Afghan, Pakistani and Iranian nationals, entered Turkey illegally from the Iranian border, reported local media.

The cause of the crash is still unknown.
