Chancellor Merkel congratulates Xi on election as Chinese president

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday held a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
During the conversation, Merkel congratulated Xi Jinping on being elected Chinese president.
Xi was elected Chinese president by a unanimous vote on Saturday morning at the ongoing session of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature.
Xi also extended his congratulations to Merkel on her re-election as German chancellor for the fourth time.
The two leaders also exchanged views on promoting China-Germany ties and their common concerns, which includes international trade.
