Rural revitalization is among the many issues on the agenda for China's national legislators and political advisors. As the Two Sessions came to a close, at least one NPC deputy, from a rural background, says China's rural revitalization has grown by leaps and bounds. But as he tells CGTN's Hou Na, there's still much to be done.
A village chief-turned businessman, 52-year-old Liu Jianming knows his countryside all too well. Leading his fellow villagers for over two decades, he has felt the changes over the last several years.
LIU JIANMING NPC DEPUTY "Since 2013, there has been massive development in China's rural areas. I've been a village chief for over two decades."
He thinks rural revitalization and income inequality remain real concerns. As an NPC Deputy, he has a great responsibility to bring more advanced technology know-how and talent to his people. More importantly, he thinks there is huge potential in land resources, which can be fully explored by developing a shared economy.
LIU JIANMING NPC DEPUTY "I suggest both rural and urban areas share resources like land and talent. We should especially encourage more talent coming to our rural area."
Liu thinks the nation needs to improve public services, create affordable public hospitals and improve rural infrastructure for rural people. As his fellow lawmakers echo, rural revitalization is key to maintaining China's economic growth and encouraging domestic consumption. Experts say this is important for China to move away from a manufacturing-based economy, to a smart and technology-based economy. Liu feels the weight of his suggestions, and is determined to put words into reality. HOU NA, CGTN, BEIJING.
