Four Taliban militants including key commander Qari Aman were killed by a renegade soldier in the Darzab district of Afghanistan's northern Jawzjan province, a top provincial police officer said Friday.
"A bodyguard of Taliban key commander Qari Aman opened fire on his friends on
Thursday, killing him and three others on the spot and joined IS group in the
area," Abdul Hafiz Khashi, deputy to the provincial police chief, told Xinhua news agency.
Qari Aman acted as shadow governor of the Taliban in Darzab district, and previously in Jawzjan province, Khashi said. He added the commander's death could represent a major setback for the group amid ongoing fighting between the Taliban and ISIL in the area.
