The disabled 69-year-old mountaineer Xia Boyu is still pursuing his dream of scaling the world's highest peak, Mount Qomolangma. /VCG Photo
Over the past 40 years, he has launched four challenges of reaching the 8848-meter-peak. He failed in his very first attempt and lost his legs at the age of 24 years old. /VCG Photo
Due to poor weather, Xia’s legs were frostbitten and amputated. The injury did not diminish his morale as he decided to scale Mount Qomolangma with prostheses. /VCG Photo
Xia has used more than five prostheses, with the most expensive pair costing more than 300,000 yuan (47,000 US dollars). Xia joked that his mountaineering experience is witness to the evolution of his prostheses. /VCG Photo
This year, Nepal announced that the country does not allow individual mountaineers and the disabled to climb up the south side of the mountain, which disappointed Xia, but he still believes that he can prove to the world that the disabled people are able to conquer such a height. /VCG Photo
