China's special envoy on the Syria crisis Xie Xiaoyan, who has just finished a visit to Jordan, briefed the trip to the media and reiterated China's stance on solving the crisis. He said that safety in the region, required patience.
"The situation in Syria is complicated. It relates to many different perspectives, that's why resolving the issue is a tough job, and it cannot be done within a short period. As far as I am concerned, if we want to work it out completely, all parties should be more patient without losing confidence." Xie said.
Beijing has made great efforts in financially supporting Syrian refugees. Xie said that China has also been proactively proposing a political solution, viewed as the only way to tackle the crisis. He has also suggested that the final solution should be abided by the willingness of the Syrian people.
"All in all, the key point is that, we should not use military force. Because facts have proved the harsh enforcement cannot solve the problem. The correct direction we should follow is to hold peace talks. We should look for a common agreement that could eliminate conflicts. The agreement should be productive and consistent."
The special envoy has urged major players such as the US and Russia to find common ground and conduct ceasefire negotiations. Xie emphasized that negotiations would provide the ground rules for political talks in the future.
