The director of the mainland's Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office voiced support for visiting Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam in defending the rule of law in the SAR, days after a candidate was barred from running in the legislative by-election in March.
Further details about their meeting were not given.
Agnes Chow, 21, was ruled invalid by a returning officer for the 2018 Legislative Council by-election.
Lam said the decision was made because Chow doesn't comply with the Legislative Council Ordinance, rejecting claims that she had come under any pressure from Beijing.
"The returning officers in Hong Kong are acting in accordance with the law,” she told reporters on Tuesday, referring to officials from the Electoral Affairs Commission tasked with approving election candidates’ nominations.
Earlier on Thursday, Lam met Minister of Science and Technology Wan Gang. Lam said technology and innovation are crucial, and her government has finished the planning for the jointly-developed Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park in the Lok Ma Chau Loop in Shenzhen.
Wan hailed the efforts the SAR government made in boosting technology and innovation industries.
Lam also held talks with Beijing's Mayor Cai Qi, and the two officials called on more cooperation in various aspects.
