Now to east China's Zhejiang province. Wuzhen is making headlines again! This time for the 2019 Contemporary Art Exhibition, which opened over the weekend at its North Silk Factory. Themed "Now is the Time", the event aims to inspire today's thinking towards tomorrow, with international exhibits assembled to arouse all your senses. Sun Wei takes us there.
SUN WEI WUZHEN "Now is the time to experience contemporary art in this ancient water town. Art comes in various forms - painting, photo, installation, sculpture, performance, as well as audio and visual arts. The installation behind me is called 'Double Vertigo'. It's created by well known British sculptor Anish Kapoor. And it's just one of the 90 works of art being exhibited across Wuzhen."
60 artists from 23 countries and regions are invited to participate. Their works are dispersed among several venues of the town, including the North Silk Factory, Rice Barn and West Scenic Zone. 35 exhibits are first showcased to the public. Based on Wuzhen's humanistic environment, 30 of them are specifically created for this exhibition.
The title "Now is the time", demonstrates the precise judgment of the curators on the comprehensive conditions and the work orientation, shape and space matching.
The event consists of four parts, themed as "Here and Now", "The Quaking Pendulum", "Exceedingly Close, Exceedingly Far" and "How Far Off is the Future", the last one is the youth program established this year to discover and encourage emerging young artists.
Awards for the youth program were also announced at the opening ceremony on Saturday, with Wang Tuo taking home the top honor "Youth Contemporary Art Wuzhen Award".
The exhibition lasts through June 30th.
