Excitement is building in Singapore as the sunny island prepares to host the summit. And one restaurant is capitalizing on the excitement by offering up a special twist on a local dish. Miro Lu tells us more.
While the two leaders will meet at highly secured areas away from the public, many are hoping to share this historic occasion in their own way. And one of it is through special cuisine.
This restaurant located in a busy shopping mall has something new to offer, the new dish is called Trump-Kim chi nasi lemak. It is a fusion dish featuring a popular local dish Nasi lemak, or coconut rice, with US and Korean elements.
ZACH WEN, CO-FOUNDER HARMONY NASI LEMAK "We create this dish, the mission is to spread harmony of course, and we create this dish which is uniquely Singapore nasi lemak dish. We decide to choose US beef, and kimchi of course, it's the North Korean national pride."
Miro: And the presentation has some meaning as well?
Zach: So presentation, we serve in a bowl, it's a very Chinese harmonious symbolism, In my term, I call it the chopstick diplomacy.
Miro: So how do your customers react to your dish?
Zach: They love it, and I think they can taste the harmonious balance and they can see the sincerity of us trying to bring peace and harmony to the world.
Weekend is here, and some Singaporeans are heading over to the bars to unwind. And perhaps have a taste of the peace cocktails specially concocted to celebrate the historic event.
STAN, DIRECTOR ESCOBAR "We're just joining in this whole atmosphere of fun. It's a very serious event, but we're trying to add some flavors, some colors to it. So we've come up with our own cocktails."
Escobar's cocktails are named "Trump" and "Kim". The Trump cocktail is blue and bourbon-based, while Kim cocktail is soju-based and it's red in color.
Miro: I saw you all order the Trump and Kim, do you like the look of it?
Customer: Yeah, definitely, it's very appropriate for the theme!
MIRO LU SINGAPORE "We are witnessing one of the most important events of the year here in Singapore, and looking forward to a positive outcome when the Summit takes place next week. Miro Lu. CGTN. Singapore."
