An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 struck near the coast of Java in Indonesia late on Friday, killing three people and injuring seven others, said a spokesperson for the disaster agency in a press briefing on Saturday.
The earthquake also caused damage to hundreds of buildings, including schools, hospitals, and government buildings in West and Central Java.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the epicenter of the quake was located at a depth of 92 km, about 52 km southwest of Tasikmalaya.

Residents were seen gathered outside as reports of building damage emerged.
Indonesia’s national disaster management agency said the quake activated early tsunami warning systems in the south of Java, but the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said no tsunami has been detected.
Java, Indonesia’s most densely populated island, is home to more than half of its 250 million people.
