Media activities are being held in Papua New Guinea ahead of this weekend's APEC economic leaders' meeting. A documentary about the island-nation has been released, and a new program called "Today" had its first screening. CGTN's Chuck Tinte tells us more.
Media workers, alongside officials from China and Papua New Guinea, attended a grand ceremony held in the capital.
All eyes were focused on the documentary "Amazing Papua New Guinea", as well as a new TV programme called "Today".
50-minutes long, the 2-episode documentary focuses on Papua New Guinea's natural sceneries, tribal traditions, and modern lives.
It's set to broadcast on China's state television network, CCTV, on its documentary channel on November the 16th and 17th.
Meanwhile the programme "Today" is a co-production between China's CCTV PLUS news agency, and other foreign news media outlets.
It aims to talk about China's stories from new points of view.
JACKLYN KANABUDI PROGRAM PRODUCER, NBC TV "Chinese media and Papua New Guinea media are good partners. The Chinese media helps us to know about what are happening in China as well as the changes taking place in the world."
Following the premiere release, the two countries' media workers held a forum on media cooperation, news exchange, people-to-people communication, as well as new media development.
Representatives from a dozen Chinese media outlets shared their views with local media including newspapers, radio stations and television networks.
A photo exhibition about the two countries' cultures and modern development was also showcased at a local university.
It highlights the new achievements made through economic and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
FRANK MOTISI, STUDENT UNIVERSITY OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA "There are so many photos showing the beauty of China and our country. I am so impressed by a photo about a student from Papua New Guinea studying in China. This is really a great exhibition."
Apart from the eye-catching exhibition, there are also other activities such as a book donation ceremony, and a story-sharing session. Chuck Tinte, CGTN.
