Hundreds of shoppers in Uganda's capital Kampala are queuing up at stores to get their hands on Black Friday deals. It's only in recent years that Uganda has joined this shopping frenzy, which marks the beginning of holiday shopping, with many retailers offering big discounts. CGTN's Hillary Ayesiga reports.
A mad dash for Black Friday goodies. Shoppers are excited about the day's discounts.
NAKAMYA MARY GORRETTE SHOPPER "I am very happy because they reduced the prices by fifty percent. I woke up at 5:00 am and I was here by 6:00 local time. We've been shopping, you take out, you're shopping. It's really been exciting."
The products on sale range from electronics, soft drinks to alcoholic beverages.
HILLARY AYESIGA KAMPALA, UGANDA "The discounts have been attractive to shoppers. Just a handful of electronics remain here. They could all be gone in a few hours."
The shop owners say they are overwhelmed by the response and Black Friday has helped them hit their annual sales targets.
MESHACH MASINGANO SUPERVISOR, GAME STORE "The sales are good and I must say we are there in terms of our projections."
Just as it is around the world, in Uganda, the Black Friday bonanza comes ahead of the festive season.
It's an opportunity for customers to stock up for Christmas, and bag themselves a bargain.
