South Korea is investigating the case of Lim Ji Hyun, a DPRK defector who became a celebrity in Seoul but recently returned to her home country.
Lim, who is in her 20s, arrived in Seoul in 2014 and became a public figure after starring in several South Korean TV shows featuring escapees from the DPRK.
She recently, however, abruptly appeared on Pyongyang television, describing how her "fantasy" about a wealthy life in South Korea had been shattered.
"In a place like South Korea where money is all that matters, a woman like me who betrayed and ran away from the motherland could only find jobs that involved so much mental and physical pain. Everyday living in the South Korean society was like hell,” Lim said.
