Pyongyang has notified Seoul that its art troupe performing to mark the 2018 Winter Olympics will travel to the Republic of Korea (ROK) on Tuesday by sea.
The 140-member Samjiyon art troupe will travel aboard the Mangyongbong-92 ferry, Baik Tae-hyun, spokesperson for the ROK Unification Ministry, told a press briefing on Monday.
The port to be used and other details are still under discussion, Baik said.
In May 2010, the ROK banned all ships from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) from entering its ports and cut off most inter-Korean exchanges, including tourism, trade and aid, in response to a torpedo attack by the DPRK on a navy ship that killed 46 sailors.
"We're seeking to apply an exemption for the May (2010) measures to support a successful hosting of the Olympics," Baik said.
According to Yonhap, the Samjiyon art troupe will have their show debut on Thursday at the Gangneung Arts Center. Performers will also hold a concert at the National Theater of Korea in Seoul on Sunday.
The DPRK had previously proposed to send its art troupe via a western cross-border land route.
