Trudeau Visits India: India-Canada ties strong, with booming trade & political exchanges

Bilateral trade between India and Canada was reportedly worth more than six billion US dollars in 2016 -- an increase of about 30 percent on 2014.
The two countries are now looking to take advantage of this momentum through a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. Just last year, more than 100,000 Indians went to Canada to study, adding over five billion US dollars to the Canadian economy. Nearly 1,000 Canadian companies are operating in India.
Canada is home to nearly one-and-a-half million people of Indian origin, one of the country's largest immigrant groups. Then Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper visited India in 2012, while Modi was in Canada in 2015.
