Time to bring out your inner child! The Beijing toy show just concluded over the weekend. Art toys were a major focus, and they were a hit among the more than 30-thousand visitors. Our reporter Ding Siyue has more.
Who says toys are only for children? Adults are only grown children. This year's Beijing Toy Show focused on the category of art toys. Also known as trend toys or designer toys, they are meant for adults, with a collection value produced by certain creative ideas and sculpture carriers.
WANG NING, FOUNDER POP MART "We want to gather all the best artists in this field here at this toy show, and let our visitors experience the charisma of art toys. Art toys are high in artistic and collectable value, and aimed for people above the age of 15. We are very glad to see that the majority of the visitors are adult. We want to promote the art toy culture together with them."
The Beijing Toy Show is the largest event on art toys in China. Themed 'Back to play,' this year's edition doubled the floor space of last year's show. More than 350 artists from 10 countries were invited. Visitors lined up to buy their favorite toys. Some even waited for hours before the sale started.
"There are many interesting toys here. Each has its own characteristics. I can feel the artists' emotions through their designs."
"We are studying art and design. I know many artists and illustrators will be here, so I want to use this opportunity to gather inspiration."
Many popular toy brands also showed up, including Molly, Pucky and Labubu. Some new items and limited editions were sold out within minutes, as total sales figures, both online and offline, reached new heights.
DING SIYUE BEIJING "The pop culture trend of art toys has been developing and maturing in recent years, as more and more people get to know this art form. The Beijing Toy Show also provides a platform for artists to share and exchange ideas, so as to advance the industry together."
WANG NING, FOUNDER POP MART "The art toy market in China is only in a starting-up stage, but it is growing at a very fast speed. I think it will grow even faster in the future. Looking at the visitors, you can see they are people of different genders, age groups and professions. They can all find their own favorites here."
As a new form of art, the trend toys are attracting more and more followers, especially among young people. Organizers say they believe the toy show will become an even larger event in the future. DSY, CGTN.
