In Italy, the ruling center-left Democratic Party has admitted defeat in Sunday's general election. According to exit polls, conducted by state-run RAI television, former prime minister, Silvio Berlusconi's center-right four-party coalition, including his moderate Forza Italia and the League, led with a little over a third of the overall vote. It was closely followed by the populist Five Star Movement. The Democratic Party, led by Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni, was back in third with about 20 percent.
