Southern India is preparing for the annual harvest festival, known as Pongal, which begins on Friday and will go on for four days. Ahead of the festival, which marks the start of a new cycle, locals have been planting and gathering sugar canes, which are considered spiritual across the country, to thank the Sun God for abundant agricultural crops.
