China is by far the biggest producer of fishery products in the world. However, the industry is riddled with problems including outdated trade methods, too many middle men and a lack of transparency in pricing. Enter Haishangxian, a startup company trying to upgrade the industry with Internet technology and mobile applications.
Haishangxian aims to connect the upper stream of China’s fishery industry but on the other side, another startup, Huacaizhaoyu, is focusing on the lower end by building an Internet platform that connects small and medium-sized seafood processors and distributors.
Internet-based B2B companies are changing the landscape for fishing in China. They are also working to make it big in international markets.
