Smith, Chien share opening round lead at LPGA's CME Group Tour Championship

Sarah Jane Smith and Chien Pei-yun posted 6-under 66s Thursday in the first round of the LPGA’s season-ending CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Florida.
Smith and Chien are both seeking for their first LPGA victories and completed bogey-free rounds at Tiburon Golf Club.
The CME Group Tour Championship, a women's professional golf tournament, is the season-ending event of the LPGA Tour.
Chien, the golfer from Chinese Taipei, performed well. Although she missed birdie for sole possession of the lead in the 9th hole, and got five birdies, six-under-par 66.

Smith from Australia also shot a 66 on a breezy day, and that was the approach and birdie put in the 14th hole, with four birdies and one eagle.
Meanwhile, Chinese golfer Feng Shanshan made her debut in the opening round of the LPGA Tour's season-ending CME Group Tour Championship after officially becoming the new world number one.
The 28-year-old Guangdong native is the first player from the Chinese mainland to top the world rankings in the sport after winning the Blue Bay Tournament in Hainan, south China last Saturday.
She had four birdies and two bogeys with two-under-par 70 in total in her debut as World No. 1 in the opening round in Florida. The new World No. 1 Feng Shanshan now stands in 18th place at the championship.
