The first whole-way trial of the high-speed railway linking the city of Xi'an to Chengdu is being carried out Wednesday, with trains departing from each end. Construction of the 643-kilometer long passenger line started in 2012. It is expected to go into operation by the end of the year and be the country’s first high-speed rail to pass through the Qinling Mountains – the natural boundary between China’s north and south.
