Several European countries have been hit by a scorching heatwave, with Italy facing record high temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in some parts of the country.
The heatwave has traveled north from Africa, and has forced authorities to issue "red alarms" in 26 cities including Florence, Rome and Venice.
The red alarm is the highest warning level in Italy.
Over in France, authorities have also issued warnings as temperatures in the southeast and on the island of Corsica skyrocketed. The sweltering heat broke nighttime records.
Authorities there have also issued an orange level alarm – the second highest in the nation – which is expected to remain in place until Friday.
