CGTN spoke to politicians from different countries about the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) ahead of the high-profile meeting set to begin on October 18 in Beijing.
In an interview with CGTN, Secretary General of Malaysia’s United Malays National Organization (UMNO) Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor lauded the CPC as a model political party “which we around the world should follow”.
He clarified that it is not an authoritarian system, adding that the CPC has done tremendously, achieving a lot in the process.
Speaking of President Xi Jinping's leadership, Mansor said that under Xi, China has witnessed a series of developments.
“I am very amazed at what the CPC has done.”
China is becoming the world’s biggest economy, he noted, praising China’s Belt and Road Initiative that he said would help the neighboring countries as well as China.
The Belt and Road Initiative is a new plan aiming to foster investment, trade and cultural and diplomatic relations across the globe in the 21st century.
The plan will translate into a patchwork of big-ticket infrastructure projects, diplomacy, and trade deals that aim to develop six major economic corridors connecting much of China and Asia, Oceania, Africa, Latin America, Europe, and beyond.
UMNO Secretary General noted that China is a vast country that requires a leadership like the CPC that will "always be looking after the interests of its people".
He said China and Malaysia should exchange delegates to enhance cooperation and learn from each other.
Explaining his political career and interactions with the CPC, Mansor rebuffed his opposition for alleging him of leaning towards communism, saying they do not understand the Communist Party of China.
