At least 17 people were killed and 21 others injured in multiple explosions in northeast Nigeria on Wednesday, Reuters reported, citing a local police commissioner.

Local media said that the first and second explosions occurred at around 9:45 p.m. local time at Mulaikalmari, six kilometers away from Maiduguri.

The third and fourth explosions reportedly happened 20 minutes later.

Security teams are on site and an investigation is underway.
