Chinese President Xi Jinping played host to the Russian Federation Council Chair Valentina Matviyenko in Beijing today. The two vowed to deepen cooperation between the legislatures of the two countries. Wang Yuan has the story.
An example of sound diplomacy between two major countries. That's how President Xi described China's relations with Russia during a meeting with Valentina Matviyenko, the chair of Russia's upper house of parliament.
During their meeting at the Great Hall of the People, President Xi said he looks forward to seeing his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin later this month during the BRICS Leaders Meeting in South Africa.
Xi said he hopes both sides implement the consensus reached between him and President Putin, support each other's core interests, coordinate in international affairs and global governance, and contribute to world peace and stability.
President Xi says the communication mechanism between the National People's Congress and the Russian Federation Council is improving, which provides a great platform for all-round cooperation, especially between lawmakers of the two countries.
For her part, Matviyenko says Russia wants to deepen cooperation with Chinese lawmakers, and work with China in multilateral parliamentary organizations. CGTN.
