China: Improving cultural exchanges with foreign countries

China will strengthen cultural exchanges with foreign countries with a document issued in July by the General Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council.
The document said that national reform and development is the foundation of improving the work of foreign cultural exchanges.
Critical are innovating the high level cultural exchange mechanism and reforming the content, form and methods of cultural exchanges in various fields. 
The document also stressed to build a number of brands with Chinese characteristics and generate international influence on the basic principles of people-oriented, equality, openness and tolerance, mutual learning mechanism, multi-party participation and innovation.

The document also calls for wide participation, mobilizing the enthusiasm of the central government, local governments and the society. 
Overseas Chinese, volunteers and overseas investment of Chinese enterprises should actively participate in cultural exchanges. Professional and international social organizations and folk forces are also encouraged to participate in the projects of cultural exchange. 
Efforts should be made to strengthen the international promotion of Chinese language, supporting more countries to incorporate Chinese language teaching into the national education system and striving to make Confucius institute a world-class language promotion institution.
Chinese and foreign film and television, publishing institutions and the media to carry out joint production, joint interview, co-publishing are encouraged.
