Trial high-speed train runs are being carried out for the first time through the Qinling Mountains, on the Shaanxi section of the Xi'an to Chengdu line. Designed for speeds of 250 kilometers per hour, construction of the Xicheng high-speed rail line began in October 2012, and is expected to come into operation later this year.
