Nepal's parliament is voting to choose the next president of the country. The two candidates are incumbent President Bidhya Devi Bhandari of the Communist Party of Nepal, and Kumari Laxmi Rai, the leader of the Nepali Congress party. President Bhandari is expected to win a second term since her nomination is backed by the ruling left alliance. This is the first presidential election since a new Constitution was promulgated in 2015, which set up Nepal as a secular federation of seven states.
