UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday condemned "unequivocally" an attack on UN peacekeepers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) that killed 15 Tanzanian UN peacekeepers and five DRC soldiers.
"I want to express my outrage and utter heartbreak at last night's attack on UN peacekeepers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo," said Guterres.
Fifteen peacekeepers were killed and 53 others injured Thursday evening, the UN peacekeeping mission in the DRC said in a statement.
Guterres offered condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and people of Tanzania, and wished a speedy recovery to all those injured.
