Last year, one hundred thousand Egyptians travelled to China. The Chinese cultural center in Cairo has launched a campaign, with the aim of further boosting that number in the future. CGTN's Yasser Hakim has the details.
It's called the "Kung Fu Journey". This exhibition takes you centuries back through the history of Henan province, the origin of the famous Kung Fu sport.
MAYAR, STUDENT AIN SHAMS UNIVERSITY "I like to come and see the Chinese shows and culture events to know more about China and also to meet with Chinese people. It's a good chance to increase the communication between the two cultures and give the Egyptians more information about the Chinese culture. Many Egyptians don't know the true Chinese culture. So, this is very important to bring the two cultures closer together."
A music and folkloric dance show reflects the artistic life in Henan, rich with its colorful dresses and creative art.
NAWAL, STUDENT CAIRO UNIVERSITY "Today was a very beautiful day and the shows that were present were all gorgeous. The exhibition, the dance, the food. We were told today that there are 300 million people all over the world studying the 'Wushu'. I thought that it was for the Chinese only. I like it very much. I discovered it is very famous."
The event aims at showcasing Henan as a popular destination for Egyptian travellers. Chinese traditional writings, for example, were on display.
SHI YUEWEN PRESIDENT, CHINESE CULTURAL CENTER, CAIRO "Today's celebration is to promote tourism in China, that's our goal. We noticed during these years that many Chinese tourists are coming to Egypt, but only a few Egyptians travel to China for tourism. Approximately 400 thousand Chinese tourists came to Egypt last year. But the number of Egyptians who traveled to China were 100 thousand. The exhibition is to promote Chinese tourism. We want to increase the information about China to Egyptians."
The location of the gala night is a symbol in itself. It's about mixing and blending Chinese Culture and history inside Egypt's elegant Islamic Art Museum. There was a high turnout for the event. Visitors were treated to a collection of Chinese dishes and sweets. They were also allowed to take home unique Chinese souvenirs. The highlight of the event was the screening of a documentary that tells the story of Henan province, the history, culture and touristic attractions.
WALAA EL NABARAWY MANAGER, ISLAMIC ART MUSEUM, CAIRO "The event develops the cultural relations between China and Egypt. As for the location, the Chinese cultural center officials visited the place and liked it very much. So the museum offered to host the festival. It was approved and thank God it has turned out to a beautiful night in the museum."
Nights like this one are sure to attract more Egyptian tourists to visit China in the near future. Yasser Hakim, CGTN, Cairo.
