The US successfully conducted a missile defense test off the coast of Hawaii on Wednesday. The test was scheduled well in advance but came a day after the DPRK fired a missile over Japan.
The US Missile Defense Agency said the test shows the naval defense system's ability to intercept ballistic missiles after they re-enter the atmosphere.
Japan is also seeking a land-based version of the Aegis defense system to help counter threats from the DPRK.
