Live streaming, an industry that emerged in China in 2005, made a significant breakthrough in 2016 and has more than 400 million users in China so far, over half of the country’s whole online community.
However, along with the success came the streaming of obscenity, violence and other inappropriate content.
Some female hosts on live streaming platforms even rack up views by giving seductive performances.
On "Fanguo Live Streaming", by November last year, more than 200,000 viewers paid for pornographic performances. The platform itself earned more than 13 million yuan (2 million US dollars) in only 40 days.
A well-known Chinese Internet celebrity MC Tianyou, who rose to stardom when his rap-like performances went viral in 2016, now has been banned from all live streaming platforms after being found describing the feeling of taking drugs in a broadcast.
