As seen in the video, the man used a rock to try to smash the sunroof glass of the car but failed. Disregarding his own safety, the man did not give it up and used his hands to tear off the broken glass and pulled out two men trapped inside the car. The man’s hands are seen bleeding in the video as he left while saying, “It's okay. I’m just going to wash my hands.”

The video went viral on Chinese social media as netizens praised the man's heroic and selfless deed.
“It is much easier to use just the hands to save lives. If he wrapped something around his hands, it would have been time-consuming. Soldiers are always at the front line of protecting our homes and defending our country,” a Weibo user with a screen name of @Quanshibizhia posted, explaining why the man did not think about putting some protective measures to his hands.

According to Anxin Police, the good Samaritan was tracked and identified as Ma Jungdong who is a serviceman in Beijing. On his way back to his troop from his annual break of visiting family, Ma met the car crash and made his all-out effort to save the victims and asked his father to send the injured to hospital.
Ma’s father told Yanzhao Evening News that he asked Ma to request for sick leave due to his wounds but was rejected.

“He said to me that on no account will he violate the discipline of the troop,” Ma’s father added.
The victims later on went to the police station to personally meet and thank Ma but Ma declined.
It is said that the Daily Positive Energy, a foundation under Alibaba, will reward Ma for his positive impact on the society.
“We hope to encourage more people to be involved in promulgating positive energy and to lend their hands to people in need,” a person in charge from the foundation said.
