China should put more efforts into improving its environment and building a "beautiful China," General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Xi Jinping said in his speech addressing the opening session of the 19th CPC National Congress in Beijing on Wednesday.
In addition, he pointed out the Party's latest vision on environmental regulation, which includes better management of state-owned natural resources.
Xi gave four key points on environmental efforts:
1. Promoting green development,
2. Solving prominent environmental problems,
3. Intensifying the protection of ecosystems,
4. Reforming the environmental regulation system.
The fourth point, relatively new to the country, echoes the government's plans announced in January to improve a system under which companies and individuals are charged based on their use of natural resources.
"We will establish regulatory agencies to manage state-owned natural resource assets and monitor natural ecosystems, and improve environmental management systems," Xi said in his speech.
